Daily Designs #4
One of my favorite activities to do for fun is seeing live, local bands. One of my favorites is Naughty Monkey, a cover band that plays songs from all different eras and genres. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going for yet, but I’m thinking some type of promotional poster/flyer or desktop wallpaper. This is what I have so far…
Here is a design that is geared primarily for desktop wallpaper use… but could also function as a promotional flyer with information in the open space.

Daily Designs #3
With baseball right around the corner, I decided to try to make a baseball-style typography. Through some tutorials and just playing around around on my own, I came up with this.
In this first image, you can see the texture effect I gave the letters, to give it a leather feel. Click the image for a larger view.
Here it is with some baseball stitching. I created the brush shape and then stroked the outside of the lettering with that shape. Creating custom brushes is something I don’t do too often, but it’s something I would like to do more in future designs. It’s definitely another way to add personality to your work.
Facebook Timeline…
When I first heard of the new “Timeline” feature for Facebook, I got excited. There are now endless possibilities to enhance the looks of your Facebook page and really personalize it. I created a new profile picture that has a very retro, pop art feel. When it came to my cover photo, I had lots of ideas… but my favorite was to actually “draw” myself. In Photoshop, I pasted a picture of my face and with the brush tool, drew the outline of all my facial features and then colored it in. The colors are actually a mix of the real picture and the parts I colored in. Then, with the help of some crazy blending modes, I came up with what you see below:
Edit: Alright, after some time I decided to go with a modified version of one of my ‘Electric Mohawk’ designs. I used the yellow and teal colors from my profile picture for the background here… the yellow being the main overlay and the teal (it actually comes off as more of a gray, but that’s due to the blending mode) grunge effect.
Edit: Yes, ANOTHER update. I’ve always loved the “jumpman” logo, and with the NBA season currently underway, I wanted to do a basketball inspired cover photo. I played around with the logo and a skyline image for a cool effect. My profile picture is black and white to mesh better with the cover photo, something that wasn’t too strong in my previous two.
Electric Mohawk Minimalist Designs
These are some design ideas I’ve been throwing around in relation to the music website I write for, Electric Mohawk. I’ve always been a fan of minimalism in design, especially when it comes to desktop backgrounds. Too much clutter can be distracting and make things hard to look at (example: shortcut icons on your desktop), whereas keeping things basic makes it pleasant on the eyes, and usually gives it a sleek look. Some of these ideas I love, some I’m still on the fence on, so look for updates in the future.

Interactive Video for CNMT Website
CNMT Interactive Video (Click to play)
This is an interactive video I created with two fellow classmates for the new Computing and New Media Technologies website at UW-Stevens Point. The goal was to promote the Web and Digital Media Development (WDMD) program to prospective students. Instead of just rambling off information about the program, we decided to personalize it a bit more by explaining what the program meant to us and what we’ve gained from it heading into the future. Definitely something incoming students could relate to and connect with on a deeper level.
My contribution to this project includes the filming and capturing of all of the footage, the design (background), as well as any “effect” used (any moving object and everything else related to the video editing).
Once the video is done playing through, click on a person to hear some stories.
*NOTE* I am noticing that once in a while the video will freeze after the “first” set of people talk (click the person with the “W”). But most of the time, it seems to be working fine. After each video plays, it should go back to the ‘main’ scene.
